So often the idea of mini sessions, or photo fundraisers is synonymous with white backdrops, bright lights and forced smiles. And I totally get that – keeping the set up simple means you can photograph as many people in as little time as possible, and keep post production time down. I have to say, after editing these guys solidly for a week, the thought is appealing!
However, I have only leafy backdrops and the bright light of the sun. And I’m not sure how to force out a smile. So give me an overcast day, a playground and 20 minutes of your life, and let’s reinvent fundraiser mini sessions!
A few weeks back I got the chance to do just that, when Maungaraki Playcentre had me over for the morning. We set the kids loose on the swings and the slide. I think we all had fun. And we got photos that show new skills, real faces (smiley ones, and serious ones), and a bit of what life is like as a preschooler.
Thank you so much to the lovely families in this post who have allowed me to share their photos.
So tell me, which one is your favourite?
